Dursley and Thornbury are the closest towns and are about 15-20 min drive from here. They both have very nice Greengrocers, Butchers, Bakeries and Swimming pools, as well as the usual Tesco's, Somerfield and Sainsburys (being built now in Dursley).

There is a lovely Coop shop in Berkeley (about 2 miles) and a nice local village shop in Newtown itself with a Post Office and off-licence as well.

It is a lovely place for short walks with the children after dinner, you can go to the docks to look at the ships or go to the old marina to look at the river boats. There are lots of beautiful local walks across the fields on many public footpaths, not to mention the Sharpness and Gloucester canal with its lovely pubs and restaurants along the way as well as the renowned Slimbridge Wildfowl and Wetlands Centre. Cattle Country Adventure Park is also just down the road where the little ones can have fun.
